Troubleshooting

My iPhone doesn't detect the tag.

Tap Scan first, then hold the top edge of your iPhone flat against the tag and keep it still for a second. Remove metal or magnetic accessories (wallet cases, MagSafe wallets, metal plates). Standard tags don't work on metal surfaces; use on-metal tags there. Some key fobs are 125 kHz RFID, not NFC, and no phone can read them.

Writing fails or says the content is too large.

Check the size meter on the Write tab. NTAG213 holds 144 bytes, NTAG215 504 bytes and NTAG216 888 bytes. Remove fields or records, or use a bigger tag. Writing also fails if the tag is locked (read-only) or password-protected.

The tag says it is read-only.

It was locked permanently, by you or by the manufacturer. Locked tags can't be rewritten, erased or unlocked by any app. Use a new tag.

I forgot the password I set on a tag.

The password can't be recovered or reset. Other phones can still read the tag (unless you also required the password to read), but it can't be rewritten without the password. Use a new tag.

Other iPhones do nothing when they tap my tag.

iPhones open website links, phone, email and SMS records from a tag without an app only on iPhone XS and later, and only while the iPhone is in use. iPhones don't act on Wi-Fi or contact records without an NFC app. iPhone 7, 8 and X always need an app. Adding a QR code next to the tag helps everyone.

I bought Pro but the app still shows ads or Pro badges.

Open the Pro tab and tap Restore purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy. Pro is a one-time purchase and is restored for free.

The app says no ad is available.

Rewarded ads aren't always available. Wait a moment and try again, check your internet connection, or unlock Pro to skip ads entirely.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Quick tips

  • The NFC antenna is at the top of the iPhone, near the rear camera.
  • For the widest compatibility, buy NTAG213/215/216 tags. iPhones can't read MIFARE Classic tags.
  • Writing replaces everything on the tag. Scan it first if you're not sure what's on it.
  • Test a tag before you lock it. Locking can't be undone.
